With the kitchen industry seeing a shift away from stark schemes and towards more natural materials, soft tones and tactile finishes, the introduction of warm metals, such as brass and copper offers a rich toned alternative to the more conventional cold counterparts, namely chrome and stainless steel. Handles, internals, worktops and cooker hoods all enhance the scheme, enriching the design and adding another dimension.3
The client’s brief was to achieve an industrial looking environment with the emphasis on establishing a unique and functional space that also has fitted into its domestic surroundings. Achieving the balance between strong visual impact with absolute functionality was one of the main design challenges, while the high ceiling needed to be carefully considered in the overall scheme. Bennie Matharu has thought outside of the box, translating his clients’ vision using a bespoke furniture system and coming up with a solution to capture his client’s aspiration.
